Green Day's latest news!

#38 Why?

NME has an interview with sixten, the artist who inspired the design of the new album cover. He addressed some criticism aimed at the design saying it looked similar to Bansky's work, and the cover of Blur's album "Think Tank".  Why does everyone accuse Green Day of copyright seriously?

#37 Autograph hard hat

#36 Heart like a Hand Grenade

Director John Roecker posted this status on Facebook a couple days agoexcited about March 25th! Going to be a very Green Day. Confirmed

And yesterday the Idiot Club posted "If you live in the Los Angeles area, keep March 25th free."

Without anywhere to point to for more details, we believe this will be the date for a screening of the documentary "Heart Like a Hand Grenade" which is the making of American Idiot. We can only hope this means that a full DVD release will come later this year.

Alright, too much assuming for one day. All we know is that something related to Green Day is happening March 25th in Los Angeles and John Roecker is involved. Hopefully more details to come.

#35 The cover art

Sixten, the artist whose work inspired the design for Green Day's new album cover, posted up a blog about his original artwork to give people some more details about where it started, and saidI love their passion, and just had to make a stencil out of it to spread the love. I've painted it a bit here and there on my travels over the years .... Glad it inspired someone.

#34 One Nine Nine Four

The documentary ONE NINE NINE FOUR, which "documents the birth, growth, and explosion of punk rock in the 90's," will be released this year. We've been talking about this documentary for a while, which will include an interview with Billie Joe alongside others like Larry Livermore (Lookout! Records), Rob Cavallo (Green Day's Producer), Tim Armstrong (Rancid), Fat Mike (NOFX), Tom Delonge & Mark Hoppus (Blink 182), and about a dozen other people directly involved with the bands that took punk rock to a new level. You can find more info about the movie here .

Why is this the perfect year for them to release the documentary?
...not only is it the 15 year anniversary of punk rock breaking into the mainstream in 1994 but Blink 182 have just reformed to make a new record & tour and Green Day are releasing a new record this year. Not to mention it's the 25th anniversary for NOFX, Rancid will hopefully be releasing their highly anticipated new record and The Offspring are one of the biggest bands on radio right now(again).

Visit their site to watch a 6 minute trailer for the film.

This looks like a very amazing documentary which of course I will watch.

#33 Rolling Stones Zine hits stores

Rolling Stone will be hitting store shelves today, go pick up a copy of the magazine with Taylor Swift on the cover. The article "Green Day's New Epic" is one of the featured sections.

We won't be posting the scans for this article right away. We encourage people to go out and purchase the magazine first. It's a decent read with a few details, but nothing ground-breaking. They did sit down and interview the band and producer Butch Vig.

There are some new banners available for you guys to use on your MySpace/Blog/Websites/whatevers to help spread the word about the upcoming album, you can find the new banners on this page (along with the code to post them).

[We are aware of the leaked version of the demo floating around the internet. The version that was released was leaked without the bands permission, and is an old version of the song, not what will be on the CD. I'm sorry but I do not know the actual site where they have this Demo. Please by all costs respect the band though.

#32 More reviews...

SPIN magazine also previewed the six songs from the new album and posted their reviewonline. More positive stuff being written - they describe the title track as "Green Day's most epic song yet". Most places that have heard the new songs all suggest that "21 Guns" is something to look forward to. So we wait.

Reprise will be re-issuing 12" vinyl's of 1039/Smooth and Kerplunk, which are listed at Interpunk for $20, with a release date for March 24, 2009. 1039/Smooth | Kerplunk

Tre Cool was listed in IGN's 10 Great Punk Drummers.Record after record Cool lays down track after flawless track of pop/punk gold. It's his attention to detail that makes him so important to the California band. He never gets in the way of the group's gigantic hooks but he sneaks in interesting little flourishes that always make the songs better.

#31 Happy Birthday Billie Joe!

Today is a very special day. Today Billie Joe Armstrong was born he brought into the world today in 1972. This day really means a lot to me. I suffered with him, laughed with him, and shared the same emotions and rough times as him. Billie Joe changed my life. Him and Green Day changed my life for the better. If he (Green Day) didn't exist I would give up. Just give up entirely with out a word.
He is 37 years YOUNG and still hot :)
Please celebrate his birthday by watching video's, listening to his music, and taking time to think what has Billie Joe helped you.
Happy Birthday Billie Joe Armstrong, 37

#30 Rolling Stones review

Rolling Stone writer David Fricke sat down with Green Day in the studio to discuss "21st Century Breakdown" recently. Look for the full in-the-studio report to hit news stands next Thursday, February 19th.

Broadway Calls, one of the most recent bands to sign to Adeline Records put out a music video for their song "Back to Oregon", check it out here. If you haven't had a chance to listen to this band, you really should. Visit their MySpace for more tunage.

#29 Start saving up

To continue with this near daily trend of a major music network reviewing the first part of the album, Billboard has posted their review, "Green Day Roars Back With 'Breakdown'".

In addition to their short review, they add Green Day will begin a North American arena tour in early July, to be followed by shows in Europe. In 2010, the band will hit Japan, Southeast Asia and South America before returning for more North American shows.

Those of you worried that Green Day won't be playing in your country, just sit tight. This looks like a simple outline, and we'll have to wait till official dates are announced for each leg of the tour. That said, I'm pretty damn excited about this. Time to start saving the pennies.

#28 Mtv's review

MTV News also had the chance to listen to and review 6 songs from the new album, 21st Century Breakdown. They seems to give a bit more detail about the music, giving many more references to the styles that certain parts of the songs remind them of. They also posted a few more lyrics referencing those songs. Hearing these initial reviews has really got me excited for this album. I was already excited solely because it was a Green Day album - but hearing reviews that this album (from the previews they've heard) seems to hold up against the greatness of American Idiot really makes me happy.  I'm really excited I'm just speech less really.

Read MTV's Article
Green Day cover a lot of ground, and they do it with a style and swagger that's admirable, especially given all the expectations weighing on them this time around. Taking cues from classic rock, going for the massive once again, they're not backing down from the fight. Apparently, Breakdown will feature 16 songs. It's not known whether they all pack as much punch as the ones we heard last night, but we can't wait to find out.

#27 It only gets better and better

Rolling Stone published their article online of some of the new songs they've heard. They talk about the music and posted some lyrics. They also reveal two more song titles,Restless Heart Syndrome & 21 Guns

Read the article
The title track quickly kicks into a familiar Green Day three-chord blast, but morphs into multiple movements like some of the more rock-opera-heavy numbers on American Idiot. “My generation is zero/I never made it as a working class hero,” Armstrong sings, making a reference to the John Lennon track the band covered in 2007. After a big drum breakdown, the song winds into a slower “Bohemian Rhapsody” moment. By contrast, “Know Your Enemy” is a straight-ahead rock song with a chanty “oh-way-oh-way” refrain. Opening powerfully like an AC/DC track, Cool drums furiously as Armstrong sings “Silence is the enemy so give me revolution.”

They also confirm "the trio will kick off a massive world tour of indoor arenas in July." Official dates will come later.

#26 News flash Green Day's new album

Green Day is getting some very welcome press about the album announcement. I'm excited to see so many places talking about the guys, and most seem as excited as we are. A couple articles:

USA Today: From this (Green) Day Forward
XFM.co.uk: Green Day Name New Album

Rolling Stone will be publishing an article about the new album in next week's issue. They mentioned that they visited the band in the studio and to expect the full story out next week. Read their artcile about last night.

Green Day.com has a new splash page designed with the cover art

#25 Short Teaser

Visit the main page of GreenDay.com to get a short teaser of one of the new songs. I'm pretty damn excited.

You can download that preview by clicking here

Wiew the post below for the album art.

#24 The cover Art

Here is the cover art for the new album (posted on GD.com). It reminds me of the Shenanigans cover art, which is still my favorite cover. Cath (in the comments) made this perfect connection to the art from what Billie Joe described the album as in the AP article: "The best way I can describe it right now is that it's like an apocalyptic angry mob with a city on fire and flashing lights while making out with your girlfriend."

If you missed Green Day at the Grammy's last night, you can download the videos via one of these links. We tried uploading to YouTube, but was taken down by the Recording Academy.

WHOOOOO!!!!!!!!

#21 Green Day at the Grammy's

Green Day will be attending the 2009 Grammy's this Sunday (February 8th) to present an award. We don't know which award yet, but the band did confirm that they'd be there.

They also told us that "cool things" will be happening on Sunday. The official site has been updated saying "Watch out for a surprise this Sunday night at the 51st Grammy Awards". We'll wait and see, and pass along anything else we hear.

The Grammy's will air on CBS at 8pm EST/PST. We plan on getting the video of their award presentation as soon as we can. We'll also be sure to pass along any more info we get if something else will be happening Sunday.

#20 PinHead GunPowder

Recess Records (who released the new Pinhead vinyl) will be releasing a Pinhead Gunpowder "Greatest Hits" CD/Vinyl this March. Exact release date is still unknown, but we know it'll be that month.

Equally exciting is that the entire Pinhead discography will be released on both vinyl and CD a bit later in the year on Recess. They're currently aiming for an early fall release of the 5 albums (August or September). The albums are: Jump Salty, Carry The Banner, Goodbye Ellston Ave, Compulsive Disclosure, and Shoot The Moon.

You can read up on the Recess Records site (the list and release dates are toward the bottom, on the right, under the header "Upcoming Releases). [Thanks mplsloseroftheyear for posting this info on the forum]

#19 5th Mike Dirnt Pic

Here's the fifth photo to surface by photographer Ryan Russell of Mike Dirnt, from their recent photo shoot for MacBeth footwear.

#18 In England oh joy

Metal Hammer posted up a blog with a quote from Punktastic about Green Day and AC/DC headlining the 2009 Reading/Leeds festival in England taking place at the end of August.

Many of you will remember that Green Day chose this festival back in 2004 to play their first show before American Idiot came out. It's something I've kept on the back of my mind; thinking it seemed plausible to have Green Day choose this event to help with a world tour.

#17 Youtube and Warner Bros.

I don't know about you but I'm so pissed off at YouTube and Warner Bros. I can't post any of my videos because they have "audio that it not authorized with Warner Brothers" BullShit I miss my Green Day videos and all the Music videos too. :( I need help to fix this. A petition, letters, something! Help please I'm so depressed.

#16 Dookie

Today my friends is Dookie's 15th birthday. The first major album of ours truly, Green Day. This album made Green Day rise to the top and continue their amazing albums (which we wait for the new one) This is a truly one of a kind album and to celebrate this you should all listen to the WHOLE album Dookie. (which I already did) 15 years ago 1994 Dookie was all over music stores and sold over 19 million copies.
Impressive Green Day really impressive. We sit and listen to Dookie and wait for more impressive news of Green Day. Happy B-day Dookie. We love you!

#15 Die rumors Die!!!!

Time to kill some rumors. First up, Chartattack was reporting that Green Day's album would be out May 5th. Their source, which was quotes elsewhere on the net, was Warner Music Canada. I checked around, and no the date is not true. One site has since removed the information and mentioned it was a mistake. We expect the actual release date to be coming kinda soon.

We also posted the rumor about Green Day attending the Coachella festival later this spring. Coachella organizers
posted the billing list, no Green Day. I'm jumping up and down my seat everyday writing these news. I can't wait for Green Day's new album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#14 New Mike pics and The Shoes

If you look closely in this new video from MacBeth footwear of Tom DeLonge talking about the coming apocalypse, you can see Mike Dirnt's shoe design, which is expected sometime this year.

Photographer Ryan Russell posted two more Mike Dirnt photos on his site (with one of them actually sitting on his front page). Click the photos for larger versions. Check back for more pics.

OH!!!! I was browsing around just right now Jan 30 3:39 pm and I found this vote green day OKAY

#13 American Idiot lands #7, MSN news

American Idiot landed at a respectable #7 on the Phoenix New Times top 10 concept albums. Nothing interesting in their review, just a short explanation of the story in American Idiot. The #1 spot went to Pink Floyd, #2 to The Beatles.

And in MSN Green Day is on The Most Anticipated Albums 09! Click here to view it.

#12 New Pictures

Okay, first I'm sorry I wasn't here yesterday for some news that might of popped up but you'll get over it. Here's a few new photos of Mike and one of Billie Joe and Adrienne. The first two were posted by photographer Ryan Russell on his MySpace. He writes that he took some photos from MacBeth footwear (we mentioned a few months ago Mike was working with them). He said more photos were taken that would be out in a few weeks. These pictures look pretty recent too. Click on the image/s and it will become bigger. (Mike looks really hot here.) [Yes the person who owns this site is a girl] (sorry the pics don't get bigger as it is)

#11 Summer, Spring, June, May?

Christopher Walsh from ProSound News posted up an interview he had with Butch Vig last fall. He talks a bit about working with Green Day, mostly compliments, saying he was impressed with Billie's lyrics. The most telling part of the interview comes when Butch Vig mentions that they're aiming for the album to be out in May or June.

That timeline is pretty much where I've felt it would be. The band had hinted at a summer 09 release before, and I knew if it wasn't late spring it'd be summer. If they really did wrap up recording, then a few months of editing/mastering/promoting seems about right. All we can do now is wait and believe =)
[Thanks to greenbear for posting it on the forum]

#10 Green Day Billboards

Green Day was recently featured in Billboard’s “Let’s Go See A Show” article, which predicts that 2009 should be a huge year for the band, following 2005’s 10th-highest grossing tour in support of American Idiot. Click on the image below to read for yourself.

#9 The Club and Vinyls

Billie Joe was recently at the Uptown Club in Oakland, CA watching a friends band, and this fan had the chance to be introduced to him and took a photo. I think this is the latest photo we've seen of any band members since the AP article.

[Source: shrinkle | Via NothingWrongWithMe]

For those of you fans interested in getting a few rare vinyls, there's a user on the forum who's parting ways with a few of his old Green Day vinyls to help pay for his tuition. He's selling the Slappy vinyl, 1000 Hours vinyl, and a Longview UK vinyl. He didn't post prices, just asked for people to message him with their offer. He wants a real fan to end up with these vinyls, not some random person on eBay who'll probably just re-sell them to make a profit. If you're interested,
read this thread on the forum and you can send him a Personal Message there.

#8 News

Green Day friends, The Bouncing Souls are releasing a new DIY album in 2009. The first track is currently posted on their website and you can expect a new one on the first of each month. Check 'em out: here!

#7 Barock Obama!!!!!!!!

Today, the first day of change, hope, and dreams that will change the world. President Barack Obama was sworn into office this morning at 12:05pm EST. For those of you who may have missed the speech, you will be able to get some recaps on the news, or you can read it
("For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies.")

Now this year is going to have changes, this year is going to be great!
This little picture here is our own Billie Joe and Mr. President Obama!!!!!!!!!!

#6 Festival Rumor? Les Paul icon, New Stuff.

We've heard a couple rumors about Green Day playing some festivals this summer, around the time of the new album release. Many of you will remember that the band made their re-appearance in 2004 with a show at Reading Festival a couple months before American Idiot came out. A blog post over at Mercury News says they've heard rumor of Green Day showing up at the Coachella festival April 17-19th. This info coming from the most recent information of Billboard mag, which thinks "Green Day will use the fest to return to live performance after more than three years away".
It's ONLY a rumor it may not be true. But if you heard more please email me.

Billie Joe made the list of the Top 15 Iconic Les Paul Players, landing him in the company of Slash, Jimmy Page and more. Check the list out HERE.

This year is already shaping up to be a pretty solid one, what with new albums expected from U2, Green Day, Paramore, My Chemical Romance, Tokio Hotel and Mastodon.
I can't really wait for anything. This year is going to be AMAZING!!!!

#5 Holy Sh*t!!!!!

Back in November we learned that the band was recording at the same studio where they recorded American Idiot, Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood, CA - same place where they recorded previous albums as well. Someone decided to go check it out, and found the guys parking spaces reserved, pretty much confirming the band was definitely there recording. A few days ago another visit to the studio showed the parking spaces were no longer reserved, leaving us to assume that recording is done; though, with no official word from the band, we can't really make any promises.

Yes I do have the exact address, but (I won't give it to you)
I'm not so sure about this, but I was freaking out when I saw this. ( No, I didn't go) But I was thinking of sending them a little something-something to see what is going on. Yes I'll try sending it once I know what. If you have ideas send them to:

#4 Billie Joe and Closings

We have a couple articles about Billie Joe's guitar playing. It's pretty fair to say that Billie Joe is a very underrated guitarist, which isn't terrible because I think it makes up for the fact that most people can recognize his tremendous talent in songwriting. This post from Modern Electric Guitars talks a bit about Billie Joe's use of guitars and has a video of him for a special from Gibson.

Billie Joe
also landed on Gibsons "15 Iconic Les Paul Players". Up there with the likes of Eric Clapton, Zakk Wylde, and Bob Marley, he's in pretty good company.

In a bit of
disappointing news, Obedient Sons & Daughters - the clothing company which Mike Dirnt invested in - is closing down. I read a few articles about this, all of them said the same thing - the company wanted more funding from Mike because they couldn't afford to maintain daily business on the budget they had.

Now both Adeline Street and Obedient Sons & Daughters are out of business. Sounds to me that maybe the guys have decided just to leave the clothing business -- for now.

#2 WSJ Article and G-Day's note

The Wall Street Journal included Green Day in the "Guide to Music in 2009". Along with their philanthropist buddies, U2 (who is expected to release their next album in March), the WSJ writes about Green DayThe Bay Area pop punks have big shoes to fill -- their own. 2004's "American Idiot" sold 5.8 million copies in the U.S. alone -- an improbably large number for a sprawling, Who-style "punk-rock opera" with recurring characters. The band's eighth studio album promises to be equally sprawling, with "acts" entitled "Heroes and Cons," "Charlatans and Saints" and "Horseshoes and Hand Grenades.". They also suggest a spring release date, though still we don't really have any concrete word whether it'll be late spring or summer. We shall wait. Read the Article

The official site has a couple updates, one asking for your cell numbers (US Only) to receive txt messages with news. If anything major comes through there, I'll be sure to post it up here for international folks (and those not wanting to share their mobile numbers). They've also got up a story about Mike being quoted in a book about the Ramones: "My respect has and will always be there for the Ramones, the band that showed me that simple songs and a simple life could make you happy".

#1 Basket Case landed #33, Tre Cool as a portrait!

Green Day was mentioned in VH1's countdown of the top 100 hard rock songs, Basket Case landed at #33 in the list.

There's an art show in Toronto on February 5th called 'Cut to the Drummer' where 50 artists from around the world make portraits of 50 drummers. Tre Cool will be done by artist Dan Page from Canada. You can find more information on this site. And here's the complete list of drummers and artists. If the finished portrait is made available online, I'll be sure to share it.
